Farewell, Captain! ⚾

Nobody is born into this world knowing the game of baseball. I had the opportunity of learning about baseball with my dad. When I was a little girl living in the Bronx, New York, my parents and I would go consecutively to a Yankees' game. I remember during one of those games, while I was looking at Derek Jeter at the Jumbotron, Jeter hit a fowl ball. Guess where that fowl ball went? I had no idea that I would be so close to a ball hit by Jeter's bat. My dad's fingernail broke the fowl ball's fall, but along with his fingernail, went the fowl ball rolling down the aisle. It was so upsetting letting that ball get away, but at least I have the memory of being close to that ball (thank God I did not get hit in the head!).

Derek Jeter:

Thank you for serving my hometown for the past 20 years (Damn! That means I was 2 years old when Jeter became a Yankee. Wait... I was 2 years old when he became a Yankee. He is number 2. I am 22 years old now. Coincidence much? I think not!) Anyways... I literally balled my eyes out watching Jeter play at Yankee stadium for the last time. It is so sad (for us Yankees fans, at least) because the last O.G. standing has retired. There will never be another like Derek Jeter. The Yankees will always and forever be my hometown team, but they will never be the same. I have to get used to seeing the new players because there is no more Bernie Williams, Tino Martinez, Jorge Posada, Andy Pettite, Mariano Rivera, Derek Jeter...

Thank you for everything that you have done for the Bronx and for others.

RE2PECT!
